Amidst all the recent high-profile weddings creating a buzz in the country is a simple yet accomplished couple – international archers Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das, who recently got engaged. Reportedly, they got engaged at Deepika’s home on the outskirts of Ranchi on December 10.
The duo has declared that they will tie the knot on November 2018. “With the Olympic qualification round starting, there will be too many competitions now, so we will marry next year,” Atanu told Sportstar.
The former World No 1 and current World No 5, Deepika won Gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the women’s individual recurve event. Together, Atanu (Current World No. 17) and Deepika won Bronze in 2013 World Cup Mixed Team event held in Colombia.
The archers first met a few years ago during a national camp held by Sports Authority of India in Kolkata, and their romance blossomed over their love for bow and arrow. Though, the close friends of the couple knew about the two, Atanu and Deepika kept their relationship a secret from the world.
Apparently, the couple decided to tell their parents about each other during Dussehra this year, and the rest just followed. With their focus completely on 2020 Olympics, the couple is excited to tie the nuptial knot next year.
