Eighteen-year-old sprinter Palender Chaudhary has allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room of the athletics academy at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Delhi.
He was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his hostel room as reported by the ANI news agency. The reason for the teenager’s death hasn’t yet been established by the police officials.
An official of Sports Authority of India (SAI) told ANI that Palender Chaudhary had an argument over some subject with his father a day before. “I was told he had an argument on phone with his father in the morning yesterday. Later his sister came to talk to him too. Unfortunately, we could not save him despite our best efforts,” the official told the news agency.
As per the statement issued by the police, On 13.11.18 at 9 pm, a call was received from SJ Hospital regarding the admission of one Chaudhary by Sh. Harkamaljeet Singh (coach) in an unconscious state. The enquiry revealed that the boy was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his hostel room on 2nd floor. The same was confirmed as a friend visited him. She raised alarm and cut the scrap bandage by a knife.
The boy was rushed to the medical centre of JNS by his coach and other guards. After the initial treatment, he was brought to SJ Hospital for treatment. The doctor declared him dead on Wednesday morning.
No suicide note was found during the enquiry. His father who hails from Aligarh in UP, had arrived at SJ Hospital.
“He told me he needed money. I assured him that I will give him the money. Don’t know what happened later. I’ve no complaints against the people at the stadium,” his father told ANI.
