Indian Olympic Association today announced star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra as the Indian contingent’s flag-bearer for the 2018 Asian Games opening ceremony at Jakarta on August 18. The IOA has named athlete contingent for the upcoming games in Indonesia.
The announcement was made by IOA president Narinder Batra during the send-off ceremony organized for the contingent. The 2018 edition will be taking place from August 18 to September 2 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
The 20-year-old Neeraj will be heading into the games on back of two back to back gold medals. He won the yellow metal at 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia and Savo Games in Finland last month.
Former Hockey captain Sardar Singh was India’s flag-bearer at the 2014 Asian Games. Indian athletes had won 57 medals, comprising 11 gold, 10 silver, and 36 bronze medals in the previous edition at Incheon, South Korea.
