Star shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has climbed to the third spot in the latest rankings released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) here on Thursday.
Srikanth, who took silver in the men’s singles category at the Commonwealth Games in Australia last month, climbed a couple of spots from the fifth place. Fellow Indian H.S. Prannoy, who last week claimed bronze at the Asia Badminton Championships, also rose two rungs to take the eighth spot. Viktor Axelsen of Denmark is at the top spot followed by South Korean Son Wan Ho.
Back in April, during the Commonwealth Games, Srikanth had become World’s Number 1, only to bow down against in a week.
Srikanth is currently on 74,135 points while Son has 74,670. Axelsen has a sizeable lead at the top with 77,570 points. Meanwhile, Lin Dan – who defeated India’s Lakshya Sen in the second round of the New Zealand Open Super 300 tournament on Thursday – bows down two spots and sits 10th on the log.
