Saina Nehwal‘s Indonesian Open journey came to an early halt after losing to Chinese Chen Yufei in the second round of Indonesia open on Thursday. The eight seeded Chinese registering a hard-fought 21-18, 21-15 victory. This defeat meant PV Sindhu will the lone Indian representative in the tournament as she managed to beat Aya Ohori in the second round.
The first game was a close affair as both the shuttlers started with unforced errors before the Indian took a 7-4 lead over her Chinese opponent. Chen came back to level the score at 8-8, but Sinaa managed to score 3 more points to take 11-10 lead at intervals.
After the break, it was Saina who committed errors to give away two points to Chen, who lead 16-14. The Chinese kept her cool under pressure after taking the lead and in the end, she managed to win the first game 21-18 in a closely fought encounter.
The second game saw Saina racing to 3 -2 lead, but Chen rallied back to pick up two consecutive points and take 4 -3 lead. The match changed course like a see-saw as the lead changed hands quickly as both the players continued to ake errors.
Chen turned things around just before the interval as she picked up 4 consecutive points top lead Nehwal 11-09 at the interval. After the interval, the Chinese continued to go from strength to strength as she yet again picked up four consecutive point to lead 14-10.
Saina tried to make comeback in the match, but Chen continued to pick up points without making a much-unforced error. In the end, she managed to close the match 21-15 and send the Indian crashing out of the tournament.
Chen will now meet the winner of the match between two Japanese shuttlers Nozomi Okuhara and Akane Yamaguchi.
