Indian badminton superstar P.V. Sindhu has never hidden the fact about how big a role former legendary player and current coach Pullela Gopichand has had in her meteoric rise in the shuttle world. Time and again, she has given all the credit in the world to Gopichand for constantly improving her game, which has led to her becoming one of the best female badminton players in the world. On the occasion of Teacher’s day in India, Sindhu has now teamed up with energy drink manufacturers Gatorade to release a short film to pay tribute to Gopichand, titled, ‘I hate my teacher’.
The title of the video might mislead some people, but the concept shows how Gopichand pushes Sindhu each and every single day to get better. This hard taskmaster approach has seen Sindhu win an Olympic and a World Championship silver and also consolidating her position among the top 5 ranked players in the world.
Sindhu released a statement before the video launch, saying, “Coach has worked relentlessly and has had big dreams for me. He is my faith replenisher. Working with Gatorade on this film has hit close to home, and I can’t help but feel indebted to coach for his relentless pursuit of excellence.”
She further added, “This Teachers’ Day, I dedicate all my success to him and urge everyone else to also honor the driving force in their lives. Let’s hate our teachers for pushing us further and believing in us more than we believe in ourselves.”
