The wedding bells are just around the corner for Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap after the former confirmed the dates of the wedding ceremony. Last month the news of the couple getting married had surfaced and Saina had confirmed about tying the knot with her fellow shuttler in December.
After the news of marriage, the dates have also been finally revealed. Speaking exclusively to the Times of India, Saina confirmed the couple will be walking down the aisle on December 16.
“I will get busy with the Premier Badminton League from December 20 and then qualifiers for the Tokyo Games will begin, so this was the only date that we had to get married,” she told the newspaper.
The shuttler also confirmed that her soon-to-be husband is getting into coaching to help her career. Although the announcement of their marriage came only last month, but both Saina and Kashyap’s relationship goes back to 2007.
“We started travelling for bigger tours from 2007-08 onwards. We played tournaments together, trained together andThe news of marriage may have come as a surprise slowly, started paying more attention to each other’s matches. In the competitive world that we live in, it is difficult to get close to someone. But somehow we both found it very easy to talk to each other, talk about our matches. The feeling gradually grew,” the 2018 Asian Games bronze medallist said.
Marraige was not on cards for both the shuttlers who first decided to focus on their career before taking a huge decision.”we didn’t think about marriage before. The career that we pursue is very demanding. It is very important to win tournaments and we didn’t want to shift our focus by getting married earlier”.
“A player needs treatment and attention just like a baby. At home, I get everything without asking, but this will change once I get married. I will be equally responsible of doing things on my own. I didn’t want to rush things before the CWG and Asian Games. But now, we think we are ready for it and can manage things on our own,” she said.
The 28-year-old Hyderabadi shuttler is having a fantastic year so far, winning the Commonwealth Games gold and Asian Games bronze, while her would be husband Kashyap has been hampered by the injuries in his career due to which his ranking dropped to world No 57.
Inspite of their respective careers going in different directions Saina said that Kashyap has been increasingly helping her with training. “We keep pushing each other. He is actively playing, but now he is getting into coaching so that he can help me,” she said.
