Women basketball players Asia Durr and Kia Nurse have created history by becoming the second and third female players to sign a deal with Jordan Brand. The New York Liberty teammates will be joining Maya Moore, the first ever women’s basketball player to sign with Jordan. Maya partnered with Jordan Brand in 2011.
Asia Durr is a two-time reigning ACC Player of the Year with Louisville. She was the 2nd overall pick in this year’s WNBA draft. On the other hand, Kia Nurse is a two-time NCAA Champion with Connecticut and was the 10th overall pick in last year’s WNBA draft.
“Maya Moore was the reason that I wanted to play in the WNBA,” Nurse said. “She’s been a huge inspiration to me and now getting to be in this situation and getting to be in a place where a lot of young women are going to be able to see the faces of two women who have achieved their dream and know that they can do that too. That’s something that’s really special to me.”
Durr is equally excited to see Jordan expand their presence on the women’s side of the game. She said it’s good for the culture and for female basketball players to be getting more exposure. “I think it’s so cool, especially to have my teammate playing by my side,” Durr said. “I don’t think you see too many teammates on the same team under the same shoe deal. So I think that’s pretty cool for me and her to be signed with Jordan, not only that but we’re the only two females players in the league [with Jordan].”
Jordan is a brand of basketball shoes, athletic, casual, and style clothing produced by Nike. It was created originally for former professional basketball player Michael ‘Jumpman’ Jordan in the mid-80s. Ever since then, the signature brand has grown exponentially to include a number of star basketball players.
