Apart from the records, medals and titles to their names, there are some athletes who go beyond. Being a superstar in a sport and setting a benchmark often has its own perks that include statues being built, stadiums and city roads named after them and of course there are the biopics and documentaries.
A similar legend in the making is UK’s boxing star, Anthony Joshua. The WBO, WBA and IBF king has achieved so much in the ring and hasn’t even stopped yet.
While the UK champ is in the midst of his last-minute prep up for the big fight against American-Mexican Andy Ruiz Jr., another offer was made to him from Hollywood. That’s right.
AJ was approached by US film giants Universal about his bid on becoming the undisputed king of boxing on the silver screen too. While the champ is definitely considering the offer, fans are desperately wanting to have a behind-the-scenes as he looks to secure a career-defining fight against WBC boss Deontay Wilder.
Universal has long been in the business of making movies that are based on sporting personalities. They just released the amazing biopic ‘I am Duran’ which is based on the glittering career of Panama legend Roberto Duran.
Clearly, they are looking at staying in the boxing genre with the offer they have made to AJ, who was the star of an excellent feature film based on his iconic 2017 fight against Wladimir Klitschko.
Currently, AJ is in the celeb-land, training reportedly with US military training for his big night on June 1 and admits that coming into the American society would have been much easier being a movie star.
He said, “I’ve got to prove myself in America because I don’t think they will come out and accept you easily. If I wanted to be a TV star, it would be easier.”
The 29-year-old has definitely concentrated his focus on his career but has not ruled out the possibility for another stint on the silver screen and we’re more than eager to wait and see if the deal with Universal goes ahead.
