Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has revealed that his wife told him that he has no chance of returning to the boxing ring as he has gained lots of weight and was considered too heavy.
Fury is now working to get back to his best after falling from top amidst a battle with depression and drug problems. During his worst period – the boxer revealed that he started drinking 100 pints of beer a week.
It was all downhill for Tyson Fury since his shock victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. However, despite this win, Fury was stripped of the IBF heavyweight title for agreeing to the rematch instead of facing the IBF mandatory challenger, Vyacheslav Glazkov.
Currently, Fury is in full preparation for his big clash with WBC champion Deontay Wilder in December. But the boxer told Showtime that his wife Paris said to him that he had blown his chance of ever fighting at the top level again.
“I rang my wife up and said to my wife ‘I’m coming back to boxing!’, to which she replied: ‘No, you’re not. You’re too fat. I was 400 pounds and counting. I’m stood here today at 259/260lbs.”
“In England, we have pints of beer. It’s like a big thing, I used to drink 20 of them like four or five times a week.
“This belly was out here, this back was out here. I had wings on me. I’m disfigured for life. I’ve got stretch marks all over my body,” he added.
He has been training hard in the United States in the build-up to the clash, and now looks back to the kind of physical condition he was in before his dramatic downfall.
