India is a country of cricket fanatics. Cricket is the most loved sport in the country and so are the cricketers. Talking about the love for cricket, everything related to cricket has its own charm, be it the lifestyle of your favourite cricketers or the jersey of the Indian team.
With the ICC World Cup 2019 right around the corner, the excitement has doubled up amongst the fans and cricket fraternity. We take a look at the jersey of Indian cricket team which also has changed along with the cricketers over time.
From some fashion disasters to some unique elements added to it, the jersey has evolved quite a lot over the past few years.
1983
The jersey in 1983 was the simplest one with just a single colour – white.
It was the first time India had won a World Cup when we played against West Indies. The squad was led by Kapil Dev during this year.

1987
The jersey didn’t see any change this year and was the same white one as previous years.
Also, the Indian team couldn’t perform very well during this year’s World Cup.

1992
The jersey finally saw colours during this year’s World Cup. Taking inspiration from One Day cricket’s jersey in light blue, the 1992 World Cup jersey for team India was seen in shades of dark blue for the first time.
On the shoulders, it had stripes in multiple colours – light blue, green, red and white. It had ‘INDIA’ printed in yellow on the front.It was the first World Cup of Sachin Tendulkar and the team was led by Mohammad Azharuddin however, unfortunately, the team did not perform very well this year.

1996
The jersey took a twist during this year and was seen in a sky blue colour with a yellow collar and a wide panel on the chest and sleeves, again in yellow.
The 1996 World Cup was very infamous for all its controversies. During the semi-finals between Sri Lanka and India, when the fans saw Lanka winning, they started burning all the stadium chairs! Vinod Kambli was seen leaving the stadium with tears in his eyes.

1999
This World Cup was organised in England wherein 12 teams participated. This year as well, India could not perform well.
The jersey however was quite similar to the earlier one of 1996. The blue and yellow combination remained same with some black borders added to its collar and instead of the panel, a new design was added to the front.

2003
This year, the jersey got revamped into a darker blue colour with tricolour splash in the front. Seen in yellow with ‘INDIA’ printed over the tricolour stripes.
During 2003, India secured a place in the finals but could not win the title against Australia.

2007
This year, the jersey was changed again with a light blue colour like the one in 1996 and the tri-colour stripes faced downwards from shoulder to waist. ‘INDIA’ was seen printed in yellow.

2011
India won this year’s World Cup under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. It was a very proud moment for the whole nation as India had won after 28 years!
With the special win, the jersey was also called to be a special one. It was once again seen in a light blue shade with the tri-colour on the sides on the jersey.
‘INDIA’ was now changed from yellow to saffron.This year was also a memorable one as it was the last World Cup played by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.

2015
India wore the Nike sponsored jerseys for this season which was made by recycling approx 33 bottles! The dry-fit technology was used in making this kit.
There was no tricolour anywhere. It was plain blue with the sponsor and team name in the front. The pocket lining of the track pants was also orange.

2019
This year’s jersey was released on May 1 and is some what similar to the one in 2015.
The official sponsor Oppo’s logo has been placed in the front and on the sleeves.
It is a mix of light and dark blue with ‘INDIA’ written in saffron.
