IPL 2019 may be coming to an end but we don’t have to wait for long before the Cricket World Cup 2019.
The new thing that we have got to witness in this World Cup is that Indian brands such as Kent RO and Amul are not holding back from sponsoring international teams. By venturing overseas, these brands are broadening the consumer base and creating a global name for themselves.
Sri Lankan team – Kent RO Systems Limited
Water purifier brand, Kent RO recently announced their sponsorship for the Sri Lankan team. This is the first time that an Indian brand will be sponsoring an overseas team on such as grand scale. Kent RO will hold the title of ‘National Team Principal Sponsor’ while MAS Holdings, one of the largest apparel and textile manufacturers in South Asia will be joining in as ‘Clothing Partner’.
Kent RO’s Chairman & Managing Director Dr. Mahesh Gupta said, “We are really excited to be sponsoring Sri Lanka National cricket team in World Cup. World Cup is the most popular format of the game and the highest order of agility, concentration and expert skill of the game.”
Afghanistan team – Amul
Soon after Kent RO’s announcement, Amul has been signed Afghanistan team’s principal sponsor for the Cricket World Cup 2019. Amul’s logo will appear on the leading arm of Afghanistan team jerseys as well as on the training kits throughout the World Cup.
Amul has had a longstanding relationship with Afghanistan. The brand has always been an advocate of rural upliftment and women empowerment, something that has been greatly recognized in Afghanistan. In fact, Amul has been providing milk powders and baby food in the country for the last 20 years.
Commenting on the partnership, GCMMF Managing Director Dr. RS Sodhi said, “We are excited about being associated with Afghanistan Cricket for the first time and Amul is hopeful that this team, rated as the fastest growing team in International cricket, will deliver outstanding performance in the World Cup”.
In other sponsorship news, Sandals Resorts International (SRI) was signed as the official team for the West Indies team last year. All teams, men and women, U15 and senior teams, will sport the official SRI logo on their kits.
While we are talking about Indian brands venturing beyond boundaries, the Indian cricket team is being sponsored by the Chinese smartphone brand, OPPO. In 2017, OPPO won the bid to sponsor the Indian national cricket team and achieved the rights to display their logo on the team’s kits from 2017 to 2022. This includes the 2019 World Cup in England and 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia.
The Cricket World Cup 2019 will run from 30 May to 14 July, being held in England and Wales.
