Manish Pandey became the first Indian batsman to score a hundred in the Indian Premier League after the right-hand batsman smashed an unbeaten 114 against Deccan Chargers at Centurion. Anil Kumble who chose to bat first after winning the toss seemed to have taken a good decision.
Manish Pandey opened the innings with Jacques Kallis and what came next was a nightmare for the Deccan bowlers. Though no other batsmen came up with something different but Manish Pandey’s knock was enough to guide Bangalore to a total of 170 runs in the allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Anil Kumble and Akhil’s economical spells restricted Deccan Chargers to mere 158 runs. Gibbs scored the highest runs for Chargers but a catch from Pandey broke the shackles at Centurion. Bangalore won the match by 12 runs but the innings from Manish Pandey was nothing less than a treat for his fans.
Moreover, this knock of 114* runs is more significant as the hundred came from an Indian for the first time. Interestingly, the two teams reached the final of the Indian Premier League 2009 and in that instance, it was Deccan Chargers who grabbed the glory and lifted the title in South Africa beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 runs when RCB were denied a title victory.
