The 2014 edition’s second qualifier was all to play for between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. Kings XI had been in top form in that particular season and were just two wins away to attain the title. Batting first, the Kings XI Punjab had a perfect beginning with Virender Sehwag and Manan Vohra giving a solid first wicket stand of 110 runs.
Sehwag’s blistering 122 off 58 balls was a ferocious night-mare for the CSK bowlers. The Wankhede crowd couldn’t have witnessed a better encounter and a better innings from Sehwag. The former right-hand batsman included 12 boundaries and 8 maximums in his tally.
In the nmiddle order South African batsman David Miller played another scintillating and an aggressive knock of 38 runs in 19 balls. Punjab ended up scoring a total of 226 runs at a loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Ishwar Pandey turned out to be the only bowler among the CSK line up who bettered the economy and also grabbed a crucial wicket of Manan Vohra.
In reply, though CSK didn’t really had a good start but Suresh Raina once again came up for the rescue. A 25-ball 87 saw slaughtering of the bowlers to all around the park. Down the order, skipper MS Dhoni tried to hold on to the innings as he remained unbeaten on 42 but that was never enough to take his team over the line.
