The most awaited day in this year’s IPL arrived last Saturday – the day when RCB registered their first victory of the campaign against KXIP. The win brought bright smiles to the RCB camp, especially, on the face of their skipper and captain – Virat Kohli.
This IPL season may have begun on a sour note for them but it is definitely not the end of the road for Royal Challengers Bangalore. They haven’t done much wrong but the wins just seems to have escaped their grasp. Scoring big totals, restricting teams to lower totals, picking the right team and fielding efficiently as well. The only probable loss for RCB is that they haven’t been able to stay on top of all the categories in a single game.
However, since they have turned the corner, things seems to be finally perking up for RCB. There have been many instances when IPL teams have made the most impossible comebacks and qualified for the playoffs. Ahead of their game against Mumbai Indians tonight, here are a few memorable comebacks that the Bangalore outfit can take inspiration from.
Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders- 2014
It was back in 2014 when Mumbai Indians made a high spirited entry into the playoffs, winning their last match of the round against Rajasthan Royals. It was a do-or-die situation for both the teams but MI went on to win with an unbeaten 99 off 45 from Kiwi all-rounder, Corey Anderson.
2014 was not just the year of Mumbai Indians and their incredible comeback, it was also about the turn around story for Kolkata Knight Riders. The then Gambhir-led outfit had registered only 2 points after 7 games. They still made it to the playoffs in that season.
Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers – 2010
The strongest team in the IPL came back from the ruins as well. They did not register even a single victory in seven matches in 2010. However, as we know it, the team has made it to the playoffs in every single edition. They won five out of the remaining seven and made it through.
After winning the tournament in 2009, Deccan Chargers got off to a poor start in the next season. They lost five games in the beginning before registering their first win. The miracle happened after that as they won five consecutive matches and finished second on the table.
Delhi Daredevils – 2008
The comebacks by teams in the IPL is not a new story, it has been on the foray since the first season. The Delhi outfit started off well winning four out of five but then lost the next four games. Managing three wins in their remaining games, they just about made it to the playoffs.
It might not be the best start but these inspiring comeback stories say a lot about how all hope is not lost for Royal Challengers Bangalore!
