Australia played New Zealand in the Benson and Hedges Cup Final on 1st February 1981. It was the 3rd Final and New Zealand needed 6 runs off the last ball and the then Australian captain, Greg Chappell ordered his brother Trevor Chappell to bowl an underarm ball fearing that Australia would lose the game.
Quite surprisingly, the ball was declared legal and Australia won the game. But on that day, the world of Cricket despised Australian cricket for that incident. That tactic got a lot of criticism and was later banned.
Ian Chappell, brother of Trevor and Greg, was commentating at the time and said: “No Greg, you can’t do that.”
