The most costly buy of the Indian Premier League in the first season of the IPL, MS Dhoni was expected to showcase his big-hitting skills in the tournament. The 15th match of the first edition against Royal Challengers Bangalore saw his brilliance for the first time in the tournament, as he came out with all guns blazing at a time when the captain innings was required from him.
He came out to bat at number 5 position, at 83 for 3 and it was already the 12th over of the game. To beat RCB, CSK needed to score more than 160 runs at least and this was already on MS Dhoni’s mind. He started his innings on a blistering note only as he sent almost every ball out of the park. His knock included 9 fours and 3 sixes.
In the end, his knock turned out to be a decisive one as CSK won the match by 13 runs. This knock set the tempo up for CSK as they became one of the most brutal batting units in the team, where everyone in the batting line-up was in full-form.
CSK went to the final of the tournament where they lost to a motivated Rajasthan Royals in a closely fought encounter. This Dhoni knock, however, remains one of the best by him in IPL over the years.
