Pakistan batsman Babar Azam goes to the top of ICC T20I rankings following a good show in the series against New Zealand, where he finished as the leading run-getter in the series with 109 runs from three matches. Also, there is a change in the ICC T20I rankings for the No. 1 bowler. Mitchell Santner replaces countryman Ish Sodhi at the top. Pakistan recently won the three-match T20I series 2-1. Azam now leads Aaron Finch (784 points) by 2 points. Babar is the first Pakistan since Misbah-ul-Haq to reach the top of the ICC T20I rankings. Misbah went to the top in 2009.
Colin Munro started the series as the No. 1 batsman, but he slipped to fourth in the rankings after he managed to score just 50 runs in the two matches he played in the series. Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad is Pakistan’s second ranked batsman in the rankings after moving 2 places to the 25th position. However, Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and all-rounder Fakhar Zaman are the biggest movers in the batsmen rankings.
Sarfraz scored 79 runs from 3 matchs, which helped him move from 76 to 55, whole Zaman who managed 99 runs rose 41 places to 71st spot. Santner however becomes the fourth New Zealand bowler after Daniel Vettori, Shane Bond and Sodhi to be crowned the No. 1 T20I bowler. There is no change in the all-rounder’s list. Bangladesh’s Shakib-Al-Hasan continues to lead the list followed by Australia’s Glenn Maxwell.
Pakistan continue to remain on top of the ICC T20I rankings, with New Zealand behind them in second place.
