Following impressive performances in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh has announced a reward of Rs. 5 lakhs for India player Harmanpreet Kaur. Harmanpreet scored a blistering 171 not out against defending champions in the semi-final of the tournament to take India to only their second World Cup final.
Amarinder Singh called Harmanpreet’s father to congratulate him on his daughter’s good show. The Chief Minister was also hoped that Harmanpreet will continue to perform like this and make the country proud, as reported by Hindustan Times.
India lead by Mithali Raj won four out of their six group stage matches to make it to the semi-final, where they took on favourites. Harmanpreet had scored just one score over fifty till then. But she unleashed herself in the match against Australia in a rain-affected match to take India to a commanding total. Australia did give India a fight as expected, but it was not good enough to get over the line.
India in the final have managed to restrict England to 228 and will hope that their batting unit clicks. This is only the second time India have made to a World Cup final. The last time they did that was back in 2005, which they lost to Australia.
This could very well be veterans Mithali and Jhulan Goswami’s final World Cup for India. Mithali will end the tournament as the leading run-getter for India, while Jhulan’s 3 wickets in the final might just be good enough for India to clinch their maiden title.
