Young Kuldeep Yadav has been making headlines ever since he played the last Test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Dharamsala. The 22-year-old has been quite a revelation in IPL as well, picking plenty of wickets for KKR.
With 8 wickets in 7 games, he might not appear in the list of purple cap holders, however, his effectiveness has been far more than just the number of wickets in his tally.
Speaking to the Indian Express, he talked about what helps him pick wickets in a tough format such as IPL. He said, “It been 5 years that I have been playing in the IPL. There is a lot of pressure to perform in each match but I am not concerned about it. I always back my strengths which is my chinaman delivery. I have a few variations up my arsenal and they have helped my bowling. They are useful when the batsman tends to attack but when I am under pressure I always back my chinaman delivery to get me wickets because it is my biggest strength.”
It is difficult for a spinner to bowl in a T20 game but that has not stopped Kuldeep from giving his best. He said, “You can’t afford to flight the ball too much in T20 cricket as you can get hit. But I don’t cower in fear. At times you get hit and at times you don’t, but it doesn’t affect me. My job is to get the ball to turn and I focus on that.”
Kuldeep has a mature head for a 22-year-old. He has made his way to this far on his ability to spin the ball and he must be proud of having done so. However, his real test begins now. It is tough to get to the top and it is way too difficult to stay there. Kuldeep will have to make sure that from here, he only looks up and does the hard work.
