Rising Pune Supergiant coach Stephen Fleming has worked hard behind the curtains to bring the Pune franchise back on track. His work has been unseen but not ineffective.
Fleming credits the success of the team to the relationship of MS Dhoni and captain Steve Smith. Speaking to NDTV Sports, he said, “Much (has been) made of the relationship. Certainly sitting with them, it has been influential for the youngsters, beneficial for the senior players, and it has been helpful for me. So it has been (a) great dynamic to be part of.”
Fleming backed Dhoni despite the former Indian captain’s slim form with the bat. He said, “Dhoni is one of the most successful players in the last decade to have played. Another opportunity to win the final for him.”
He added, “He is up for it, very motivated. It has been good this year, he has played some cameo roles. He has been criticised for not doing as much, but what you have to appreciate is how good he was when he was doing it time and time again.” Earlier, Rising Pune Supergiant owner Sanjiv Goenka said that MS Dhoni is the sharpest mind he has interacted with.
Rising Pune Supergiant and Mumbai Indians will be up against each other in the final of the Indian Premier League 2017 at Rajiv Chowk International Stadium. Mumbai will be eyeing to lift the trophy for the third time whereas Pune will try and win it for the first time.
