Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif is set to be a part of Gujarat Lions team in this upcoming Indian Premier League edition that is commencing from April 5. The right-hand batsman will now be the assistant coach for Gujarat team who topped the table in the last edition.
Lions are presently coached by Australia’s Brad Hodge who has a great experience of playing T20 format. Kaif, who last played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, has had a career of 29 matches in the cash-rich league scored a total of 259 runs at an average of just over 14.
Kaif, on Thursday, tweeted, “Glad to be a part of such an exciting group of boys and a wonderful management. Looking forward to ensure.”
Kaif, earlier, has also been a part of Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. The Lions play two times winner Kolkata Knight Riders in their tournament opener on April 7. While the under-19 World Cup winning skipper hasn’t had a great run in the IPL with willow, he has been pretty clinical with his batting while donning the Indian jersey. Kaif has scored a total of 2753 ODI runs in 125 matches.
Apart from being a decent customer with the blade, Kaif would also play a major role in enhancing Lions’ fielding efforts. Kaif is labelled as one of the most sought after fielders who has represented India at the highest level and his guidance in this department would prove fruitful for Gujarat Lions while they take the centre stage on April 7 against the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders.
