To say that the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Lions was a one-sided affair would be a massive understatement. Gujarat posted 183 runs on the board and they would have surely thought that it was a competitive target. But Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir had other plans and they blasted the Gujarat bowlers all over the park.
One moment though which was lost in Kolkata’s resounding victory was the manner in which Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina and Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Chris Woakes upheld the spirit of the game. The spirit of the game has been a hot topic of discussion after the series between India and Australia which saw various clashes between the players. But Raina and Woakes showed that you don’t always need to be aggressive and cricket is still indeed a gentlemen’s game.
While taking a run, Raina bumped into Woakes, but instead of clashing, the pair immediately moved on and even shook hands with each other. After the incident, Raina immediately went over to Woakes and apologized for the incident. Woakes to his credit did not make a fuss out of it and the pair even shared a hug and a laugh afterwards.
This incident between Raina and Woakes should be set as an example for players to follow in the future.
