England dashing opener Jason Roy, who was one of the hottest draws in this year’s IPL auction, has been sold to Gujarat Lions for the price of Rs. 1 crore. He had the same base price in the auction list.
Roy’s signing is a serious statement of intent by Gujarat, as he is one of the most devastating batsman in the world currently. The opener has made his name for England in the shorter formats of the game and is regarded as one of the finest T20 players in the world. He has played 19 T20 Internationals for England, scoring 369 runs at an average of 19.42 and a strike-rate of 129.92.
He made a great impression in England’s ODI and T20I series in India, getting his team off to some brilliant starts. Who would sign Roy was one of the biggest questions heading into the IPL auctions in 2017 and with his signing now complete, the world has its answer.
This will be the first time when Roy will be playing in the IPL. It was a bit surprising to see Roy being ignored in the first round of the auction. Nevertheless, it was good to see Roy getting sold quickly in the second round of the auctions by Hyderabad. The reason why Hyderabad have picked him to boost their opening batting bench strength. Roy is just going to do that.
