India’s star cricketer Rohit Sharma has been invited by the Major League Baseball club Seattle Mariners to throw out the ceremonial ‘first pitch’. Rohit will become the first ever Indian cricketer to get this rare and honourable recognition in a major league American Sports event.
The event will take place at Safeco Field, where Rohit will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The Safeco Field is also the home ground of Seattle Mariners. The ceremony will start at 12:30 pm (Pacific Standard Time) as a pregame activity against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The league has a historical ritual of inviting a guest of honour to throw out a ceremonial first pitch to mark the start of the game. Rohit is on a three-city US tour as part of ‘Desh-Legends of Cricket Series’.
The Indian opener, who is managed by IMG Reliance Talent Management, will be travelling to San Francisco/Bay Area, Seattle and Los Angeles, where he will be participating in a series of cricket clinics and fan meet and greets.
