Not so long ago, a decade back, the captain-coach relationship had stirred the Indian cricket for a long time. Greg Chappell and Sourav Ganguly and some of the other seniors were involved in a major fight that threatened to damage Indian cricket. Similarly after almost a decade, even though it’s neither been confirmed or denied by either party, the Virat Kohli-Anil Kumble rift is coming at the worst possible time, right before India take on Pakistan tomorrow in a crucial Group B game.
Been there done that, Sourav Ganguly, as per a report in Wisden India, is quoting as saying,” Just deal with it. You’re a name, you’re captain of India, you’re coach of India, and you’ll have to deal with this. Just keep quiet and play the game.” There were also many media reports doing the rounds that Sourav Ganguly who’s already present in England for commentating duties for Champions Trophy, has also apparently acted as a mediator between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble.
According to a report in Times of India, when asked to what extent such controversies affected cricketers negatively, Sourav Ganguly replied, “These are two exceptional cricketers. You need to hear from the right people about any differences, and whether there is anything at all. Right now you’re in the middle of the Champions Trophy, you’re playing against Pakistan. You cannot even think about these things.”
