Sourav Ganguly has hit back at Ravi Shastri over the ‘Coach Interview’ row. Replying to Ravi Shastri’s comments on Ganguly being ‘disrespectful’ to the selection process, the former Indian Test captain said, “If Ravi believes that I am responsible for him not becoming India coach, then he is mistaken. To imagine that I am responsible for him not being coach is living in a fool’s paradise. There were far bigger names in the CAC than Sourav Ganguly.”
Earlier, Ravi Shastri, who was overlooked by the three-member advisory committee comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly had advised Sourav Ganguly to be present in future meetings. But Ganguly, who does not like to bow down, went on advising Shastri. He said, “Be present for meetings in person. He should not have been holidaying in Bangkok when another former cricketer gave an hour-long presentation.”
Ganguly further said that he had seen Shastri’s interview on various TV news channels and had thought that he would not react to his statements. But he could not stop himself from reacting as Shastri went on and on. He said, “I have seen that (Shastri’s interview) on TV and I was reading about it in the newspapers. Thought I would not react to it but it just went on and on. I will make available the emails and contacts I made with the BCCI.”
Ganguly concluded that he is very saddened and disappointed with his remarks as Ravi Shastri made those remarks without knowing the full facts. The former left-handed bat said that he had informed the BCCI two weeks ago that he would had to miss the meeting at around 5 PM. The meeting with Ravi Shastri was scheduled for 4:15 but it got postponed for 45 minutes, hence the complication.
