It was the inaugural season of Indian Premier League (IPL) i.e 2008 when the Indian fans and the whole world was glued to the TV sets to the world stars under one roof. The mood was upbeat among all the franchisees as the league was welcomed with open arms by the cricketing world and fans.
While the batsman and bowlers entertained the fans on-field, there was this off-field incident that made the headlines that season. The incident involved former India cricketers Sreesanth and discard off-spinner Harbhajan Singh. The incident happened after one of the matches between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab where the Punjab off-spinner slapped the Kerala speedster.
In 2016 Harbhajan Singh opened up about the incident on India TV during Aap Ki Adalat show. “”Usne nautanki bahot kar di actually. Wo meri galti thi jo harkat ki maine ground pe, I have said in many interviews that there are many things which I have done wrong in my life and I have learnt from them. That incident with Sreesanth is one where I was wrong. I am emabarrased about it as well. But he started crying as if I had slapped him very hard. That was not the case. But that was one incident where everybody will say that I was wrong. I will say again that I am sorry and I shouldn’t have done it,” the spinner said.
While the whole heard one side of the story Sreesanth who is currently participating in Bigg Boss 12 show spoke about his side regarding the slapgate controversy.
In the latest captaincy task on Thursday where Surbhi asked about Sreesanth’s controversial past, the cricketer revealed that he had only gone to wish Harbhajan hard luck after the match. He was, however, shocked when Harbhajan slapped him. The former cricketer also said that he cried only because he felt helpless at the time.
Sreesanth was left emotional after the chat with Surbhi. He was seen spending some alone time in the house.
