The Aussies ended the day one with a commanding score of 299/4, as both Steve Smith and Glen Maxwell steadied their ship after they lost some early wickets.
Both, right now, have an unbeaten partnership of 159 and judging by the look of the things, it is fair to say that they might give India an unreachable task. Maxwell was playing a hardball throughout and was hitting Indian bowlers inside out, while Smith was playing it cool as he completed his century in 227 balls.
The game was always going to be a cracker and there sure were some substantial moments with Virat Kohli being taken off the field after he injured his shoulder while chasing the ball towards the boundary line. But the moment of the day has to be Wriddhiman Saha’s attempt to dismiss Steve Smith in a way that left the match official – Ian Gould – laughing out loud.
The Aussie skipper, while trying to defend a Ravindra Jadeja delivery, got the ball stuck between his pads. Wicketkeeper Saha, without a slightest of doubt, thought it edged the bat and tried to catch it. After a bit of hustle and bustle, both Smith and Saha went to ground leaving the spectators and the players amused like anything.
