If the Pune Test was all about the pitch controversy, the Bengaluru one for DRS then Ranchi will be remembered for the shoulder controversy. An injury to Virat Kohli’s shoulder on the first day of the Ranchi Test had made Indians a little worried. Australians, however, saw the funny side of it when Glenn Maxwell seemingly mocked Kohli’s injury when he clutched his right shoulder after diving near the boundary ropes on day 3 of the match. The fact that he laughed while doing it made everyone believe that he indeed was mocking Kohli.
On the same day, the same blame was levied upon Australian captain Steven Smith, who, as per some fans and commentators was seen mocking Kohli’s shoulder injury. A TV footage showed Steve Smith clutching his shoulder after taking a catch at second slip to dismiss the Indian captain. It was later revealed that it was not the hand of Smith but of Peter Handscomb.
On Sunday, when India sent David Warner back to the hut once again, Indian captain was not too late to do the same to him. He celebrated less and mocked more, clutching his shoulder to give a befitting send off to Warner. It will be interesting to see how the Australian team reacts to this gesture by the Indian captain. More so, let’s see what the match referee has to say about it.
The twitter too reacted very strongly to the incident. Let us have a look at few tweets:
The best of the tweets first. Here is Anna Lanning, an Australian, mocking Maxwell only. It was good to see an Australian seeing the funny side of it. The Australian media has been very serious and aggressive and biased in their reporting in this series. Lanning’s tweet becomes very important in that regard.
How dare Kohli mock Maxwell’s shoulder injury ?? #AUSvIND

Kohli’s celebration quite something there. Doctors healed his shoulder but were clearly unable to remove the large chip. #IndvAus
