In the latest ICC Test rankings released, Indian skipper Virat Kohli, after a stunning double century against Bangladesh in the one-off Test at Hyderabad, has edged closer to Australian captain Steven Smith on top of the ICC Test rankings. Kohli has achieved career-best rating points of 895 and now only trails Steven Smith by 38 points. Joe Root retains the third spot in the batsmen’s rankings, followed by Kane Williamson.
Indian batsman Murali Vijay has also gained one place in the ICC batsmen’s rankings, jumping to the 26th spot. Wriddhiman Saha also gained 12 places in the ICC rankings to jump to 57th position in the rankings.
In the bowlers’ rankings, Indian spin duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja both held on to the top two spot in the rankings. Jadeja trails his Indian team-mate by 10-points. They are followed by Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood in the third spot.
Umesh Yadav also gained two spots to jump to No.34 in the bowlers’ rankings.
Even though they lost the Test match, it was still good news for the Bangladeshi batsmen as Shakib Al Hasan jumped two places to break into the top 20 of the ICC batsmen’s rankings. Mahmadullah also has achieved his career-best rankings of 45, jumping by five places on the list.
