It was a day of mixed fortunes for English teams in cricket and Football. While Eoin Morgan side lost by 8 wickets to Virat Kohli’s India at Old Trafford in Manchester, the football team led by Tottenham forward Harry Kane overcame Colombia in penalties to enter quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.
Team India spinner Kuldeep Yadav troubled English batsmen as he took 5/24 to destroy the middle order. Some big hitting by all-rounder David Willey at the end ensured that England put up fighting total on board. Buttler was the only standout performer with the bat as he top scored for his side with 69 runs.
For India KL Rahul completely dominated the England bowling attack, who were sent for leather hunting to all the parts of the ground. The Karnataka batsman scored the second century of his career and guided India to a comfortable win.
Inspite of losing the 1st T-20I, cricketers took some time off to watch the Round of 16 match between England and Colombia at 20018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Wicketkeeper and opening batsman Jos Buttler took to social media handle Instagram to share a video in which cricketers could be seen celebrating the victory. With Eric Dier calmly converting the penalty, England cricketers could be seen jumping in joy in a huddle and celebrating the victory.
The second T20 international will be played in Cardiff on the 6th of July – Friday.
