On This Day, February 14: Chaminda Vaas became 1st bowler to take hat-trick with the first three balls of a match
On this day, in 2003, during the 10th match of the ICC World Cup 2003, Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas bamboozled hapless Bangladesh with his terrific hat-trick of the first three balls of the match. The match was also the second match for both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the tournament. He became the first and only bowler till date to achieve this rare feat. Vaas' hat-trick laid the foundation of Bangladesh's low score as they were bowled out for mere 124, which Sri Lanka chased easily without losing any wicket in 21.1 overs. Vaas ended his spell with 6 wickets by conceding 25 runs from 9.1 overs.
