Former Delhi Daredevils skipper Gautam Gambhir said that if the team management have picked him up in the playing XI he would have surely played. Gambhir didn’t play even a single match since the time he stepped down as DD skipper.
Earlier in the tournament, newly appointed skipper, Shreyas Iyer had said that Gambhir had himself asked to sit out and it wasn’t his decision to bench the left-hander.

“I didn’t make any call to be honest. It wasn’t my decision to drop him. He himself decided to sit out, which was really courageous decision with him being the captain in the previous matches. The respect for him has gone really high. It’s really (good to) see when a captain, if he’s not playing well, he backs out. Colin (Munro) came in and gave us the desired start,” Iyer had said then.

However, Gambhir has now come out and said that it was team management decision of not picking him in the playing XI. “I never dropped myself from the playing XI. If that was the case, then I would’ve announced the retirement as well. A lot of cricket is still left in me,” he told ABP news.

In his column in Hindustan Times he also explained why Delhi Daredevils once again failed in the Indian Premier League. “Injuries to key players like Rabada and Morris, inability to build the right team combination, certain players not clicking, the team not playing important moments well and also the inability to handle pressure are all reasons for our failure. Gambhir also said that he always believed it is bowlers who win you games whatever be the format and Delhi lacked there.”
DD loss
Delhi finished the IPL as the last placed team on the points table with just 10 points in their account.
