In the historic Test of Afghanistan, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan gave the opponent a taste of long format cricket with his hammering batting by scoring a brilliant century off just 87 balls. With this century, Dhawan became the first ever Indian batsman to score a century in the first session of the first day’s play of a Test match. Previous best was of 99 not out by Virender Sehwag, which Dhawan surpassed.
On his course to the century, 41 out of 51 runs came from Dhawan’s willow from just 27 balls he faced off Rashid’s bowling, including 8 fours and a six. After the end of day’s play, Dhawan opened up and said that he was not aware of the record and added, “It feels great. I didn’t know about the record till I came back into the dressing room at lunch where it showed on TV.”
Ahead of the historic first Test of Afghanistan against India at Bengaluru, captain Asghar Stanikzai rates his spinners better than Indian turners. The historic Test match will start from June 14 and the team is headed by the spin attack consisting of World No. 1 ranked T20I bowler — Rashid Khan.

The match is being organised to raise funds for stadia in the Caribbean which were damaged due to hurricanes last year.

Afghanistan sensation Rashid Khan joins the top spot in ICC ODI bowling rankings along with Jasprit Bumrah. At the age of 19 years 152 days, Rashid becomes the youngest to reach this point. He has currently 787 points to his name, which makes him stand alongside Bumrah at the top with the same number of rating points.
Previously, Saqlain Mushtaq held the record for the youngest bowler to attain top spot in ODI bowling rankings at the age of 21 years 13 days. Rashid jumped 8 places to reach this level after taking 16 wickets against Zimbabwe in 5-match ODI series, while Bumrah jumped two places. Rashid is expected to go past Bumrah in the coming ICC World Cup qualifier as India are not going to play any ODI series soon.
Moreover, Rashid's 51 runs in two innings in the series against Zimbabwe, including a brisk 43 in the final match in Sharjah on Monday, has also helped him break into the top-five in the list of all-rounders while he has also moved up 11 slots to take 114th place among batsmen.
Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan has justified the massive amount for which he was bought by IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rashid has been phenomenal with his bowling performances, picking 11 wickets in just 8 games at a striking average of 19.18 and economy of 6.39.
While speaking to TOI recently, he revealed his favourite wicket in IPL thus far. He said, “Taking the wicket of McCullum gave me plenty of joy.”
Rashid hails Muttiah Muralitharan as the greatest spinner and thankfully, he has him as the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad as well. He said, “Actually, most of the pitches in Asia are good for spinners. I have been working a lot with my coaches, especially Muttiah Muralitharan. He is the best spinner in the world. He has been helping and giving me all the confidence to just go out there and give my best.”
Rashid Khan is very happy that they have become the brand ambassador of Afghanistan cricket, representing them at a big platform like IPL. He and his teammate Mohammad Nabi are the only Afghans picked in the tournament. Rashid said, “The whole of Afghanistan is watching this league. The way our country is supporting Mohammed Nabi and me, it is just unbelievable.”
