Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has topped the chart to be named India’s most powerful celebrity brand for a second year running. Kohli saw his brand value increase by 18% in 2018 for a total value of a stunning $170.9 million.
The Indian cricketer endorsed 24 brands till November 2018 meaning he has left a host of Bollywood superstars behind when it comes to having the most powerful celebrity brand in the country. The list was released by corporate finance advisors Duff & Phelps.
Kohli is followed on the list by Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone who has a brand value of $102.5 million and is the only other person to have their brand value cross a 100 million.
Overall, the top 20 of the list consists of 4 sportspersons including Kohli. Three of them are from cricket with PV Sindhu being the fourth and final sportsperson on the list representing badminton.
MS Dhoni is listed 12th on the spot with a brand value of $26.9 million. He is followed on the list by the iconic Sachin Tendulkar who is in the 13th spot and has a brand value of $21.7 million. Finally, PV Sindhu has retained her 15th spot on the list with a total brand value of $21.6.
Overall the total brand value of the top 20 celebrities is a stunning $877.4 million. The top 10 who make the list have contributed to over 75 percent of the total brand value.
Other prominent personalities who feature on the list include Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan who are all from a Bollywood background.
