On this day, back in the year 2000 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan ran through the Indian batting line-up to register his best bowling figures in ODIs. It was the 6th match of Sharjah Champions Trophy, which was getting played between neighbouring rivals India and Sri Lanka. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 294-5, courtesy a brilliant hundred from Marvan Atapattu and Mahela Jayawardene. Coming to chase, India started off decently with opener Sachin Tendulkar scoring 61 off 54 but it was just a matter of time as Murali was waiting on the other end. Murali ripped apart India’s batting line up by dismissing, Tendulkar, Robin Singh, Vinod Kambli, Yuvraj Singh, Hemang Badani, Vijay Dahiya and Sunil Joshi. His brilliant spell helped Sri Lanka defeat India by 68 runs. Moreover, they continued their winning-run as they beat India again in the final to lift the trophy.
