On this day, back in 2014 at Dhaka, Sri Lanka finally got the chance to put their hands on World T20 trophy after losing twice in previous finals of the tournament. This was their third appearance in the final of a World T20 tournament after 2009 and 2012. Sri Lanka were playing against India in this final. Captained by Lasith Malinga, Sri Lanka’s half job was done once they restricted India to only 130, courtesy some brilliant death bowling by the skipper and Nuwan Kulasekara. Despite such a modest total, Sri Lanka lost 4 wickets at 78 inside 13 overs but thanks to Kumar Sangakkara’s resilient knock of unbeaten 52 off 35 balls, they won the trophy for the first time. Sangakkara was adjudged with Man of the Match for his brilliant knock.
