On This Day, May 16: England lift their first ever ICC Trophy by winning World T20 2010
On this day, back in 2010, England were crowned the World T20 champions at Bridgetown in Barbados after they defeated Australia in the final by chasing 148. Paul Collingwood-led England to lift their first ICC trophy; courtesy Craig Kieswetter's brilliant knock of 49-ball 63 along with Kevin Pietersen's 47 off 31. The foundation of this historic win was laid by the English bowlers as they restricted Australia to a below par score. David Hussey was the one who scored a bit by amassing 59 but that was a quite slow knock as he took 54 balls. Ryan Sidebottom and Graeme Swann kept the Australian batters on day. Post victory, Kieswetter was rewarded with Man of the Match award while Pietersen was named Man of the tournament.
