The first edition of the Indian Premier League took place in the year 2008 where the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals battled out against each other in DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai. Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Chennai were put into bat by Shane Warne and Parthiv and Raina took on the bowling attack of their opponents. Parthiv scored 38 runs while Raina was clinical with his 30-ball 43. Later, skipper MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 29 runs in the end of the innings guided Super Kings to a total of 163 for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Rajasthan Royals lost early wickets during the chase but Asnodkar and Watson’s 28 apiece held on the innings for the Royals franchise but it was once again Yusuf Pathan who smashed a riveting half century to anchor his team to a win in the finals.
