Former Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has started his new venture in the hospitality bureau after the striker unveiled his new a kebab restaurant over the weekend in his longtime home city of Cologne.
The Germany forward named his restaurant Mangal Doener and as per the Daily Mail, around 1,000 fans turned up to get their hands on it, and many of them even arrived more than five hours early to take a glimpse of their local hero. Furthermore, many of the fans even managed to get an autograph of the World Cup winner, who reportedly fell in love with the late night snack while his time in Turkey.
Upon opening his venture, the 32-year-old was quoted by the Sun as saying, “A night to remember in Cologne, the beginning of a new fun chapter.
“The best döner out there. Thank you all for coming and I hope you enjoyed it !”
Also, Podolski has opened this new venture along with two co-owners and upon unveiling, the striker posed with the cutting knifes standing right beside a huge slab of unidentified meat. This certainly isn’t Podolski’s only business in the hospitality department as only last year, he opened an ice cream parlour in Cologne itself. The striker, right now, is playing for Vissel Kobe – a Japanese club – and is in Cologne to undergo treatment on a thigh injury.
Podolski is considered a cult hero in Cologne as it was the local club with which he started his career in 2003 before moving to Bayern Munich. He then went on to spend spells with Arsenal, Galatasaray before ending up at Vissel Kobe. Podolski, furthermore, doesn’t seem to be too much worried about the amount of calories (2,000 calories to be specific) his Kebabs will contain. “As an athlete, you’ll burn an ice cream for dessert or a kebab in around 10 minutes,” he told local paper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.
