The home stadium for Spanish giants Real Madrid is all set to undergo a makeover. The design and layout plan for the stadium is ready and was released by the club in an official press conference.
Florentino Perez, the President at Real Madrid, has said that the stadium will become the “best stadium in the world” after it undergoes its renovation. The work for this renovation has been approved by the City Council and will commence at the end of the season.
The aim is to finish the project by the end of October in 2022 and is estimated to cost around $650 million. The amount might sound a little over the top but Florentino Perez has claimed that the costs will be recovered.
This is under the vision that the stadium will be able to generate an added $170 million a year.
Well, enough about the revenue and probably profits; let us look at what the new stadium is going to bring with it. The major attraction is the retractable roof as well as the pitch, along with a metal envelope for the entire stadium. This metal frame will be display-friendly and will be able to showcase pictures as well as videos.
Along with the spectacular developments, there will also be upgrades in the shopping and eating availability, security, access, the club museum and the areas surrounding the stadium.
When talking to the media, Perez said:
The plan has been approved. That’s why I want you to know that next week, we will sign the final contract and during the month of April we will begin allocating the projects with the aim of starting as soon as possible when this season finishes.”
The stadium has been one of the most famous stadiums in Europe, since being built in 1947. It has also been home to a number of iconic games in the La Liga as well as the Champions League. The current capacity of the stadium is 81,000 and will not change much post the renovation.
Florentino Perez has also said that he wants it to be an iconic stadium.
