Luka Modric achieved the near impossible, breaking the decade-long duopoly of two absolute freaks of nature Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Ballon d’Or award for the best footballer in the world in 2018. It was a well-deserved award for the Croatian midfield maestro who had a brilliant year, leading unfancied Croatia to the FIFA World Cup final. For his efforts, he was awarded the Golden Ball for being the best player in the tournament.
He also again had a highly consistent season with Real Madrid at the heart of their midfield as they romped to a third consecutive UEFA Champions League title.
Modric who has long been associated with American Apparel giants Nike was given a huge honour by the brand, as they designed a special line of boots to celebrate Modric winning the award.
Modric posted the picture on his Twitter along with the boots awarded to him by Instagram, writing, “A special year. A special prize. Thank you, everyone.”
The Croatian was awarded a shiny white pair of shoes, reflecting the colours of Real Madrid, the club for which he wears his heart on his sleeves. The boot also has a special encryption on it written ‘Ivano & Ema, Sofia & Vanja’. These are names of Luka Modric’s three kids and his lovely wife.
Modric will be now aiming to repeat his achievements in the current season and help Real Madrid to more successes with the Spanish club still alive in all the major competitions so far. They are still competing for the La Liga title despite their inconsistent and often erratic showings and will be also be aiming to clinch their fourth consecutive UEFA Champions League crown.
