Eyebrows were raised when the Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain teamed up with the Jordan brand. The basketball great, Michael Jordan, sure has nothing to do with football, but he has his long-lasting association with Nike as well as the capital city of France.
Having also been associated with the French Basketball Federation since 2017, the Jordan brand entered the footballing arena this September when after a series of teasers, the Jordan Brand x Paris Saint-Germain collection was made official. The Paris club first donned the Jordan brand kit under Anfield’s floodlights in a UEFA Champions League fixture against Liverpool.
Apart from the kit, which is exclusive for the Champions League, the teams also came up with a footwear range which includes Mercurial Vapor, PhantomVSN and Air Jordan V, and not to forget their lifestyle range. While this remains their on-field collaborations, the capital is also indulged in an absolute street fashion. And we say why not?
Having players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Beckham, Buffon, Neymar and Mbappe (in past and present) in their roster, the club has always represented a certain degree of honour. The aforementioned are not just names; they are a brand in themselves, to say the least. The current PSG crop comprises of sheer fashion devotees. Right from experimenting the hairdos to featuring in rap videos, the players are keeping the culture alive.
Take Thiago Silva and Mbappe for instance. While the former was honoured by AJ Tracey and Dave through a video, the latter was privileged with the same by JXSE. Adding to it, they also have their association with Nike over limited edition shoes coupled with customized headphones with Beats by Dre.
Being a global club, PSG are keen on advancing their market worldwide and it was only last month that they teamed up with a Japanese streetwear brand BAPE to launch their new capsule collection. A complete hipster collection this, the collaboration has launched a fantastic shark-shaped hoodie which features a full-length zip. Adding to the list is a stylish jacket which has club’s red and blue colour.
And the most recent addition to their long list of association is another Japanese brand Edifice, with whom the club has launched the winter/autumn collection. The collaboration includes a line of jumpers, tracksuits, scarfs, ties and hoodies amongst the other. Check out the collection:
