England will face off against Croatia in the second semifinal of the 2018 FIFA World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday.
The Three Lions defeated Sweden 2-0 in the previous round of the competition, with Harry Maguire and Dele Alli getting on the scoresheet on either side of half-time. This will be England's first ever semifinal appearance on the grandest stage of football since back in 1990, when they were eliminated on penalties by West Germany. And Gareth Southgate will be hoping to do one better this time out and make it to the finals.
Croatia, on the other hand, made it to the final four of the 21st edition of the World Cup, after eliminating hosts Russia 4-3 on penalties. It was their second win in a shootout scenario in the ongoing competition, having first beaten Denmark in the Round of 16 via spot-kicks. The last time the Croatians made it to the last four was twenty years ago, in 1998. And they will be keen on going one step further this time out.
Ahead of the big game in Moscow on Wednesday, here we pick out the strongest possible combined XI, featuring the best players from both teams so far in the tournament.
We go with a 4-3-3 formation as it would best complement the strong points of the players.
