As the 2016-2017 Premier League season draws closer, the transfer market has been a pretty dull one. Players participating in the Euros had no intention of discussing about their future as it was thought to be a distraction from the national team, and with a raft of managerial changes taking place, very few clubs wanted to dip into what is already a very inflated transfer market. But there have already been some really interesting transfers. Here are the top 5:-
5) Ahmed Musa to Leicester City
After surprising the whole world with their amazing title winning campaign last season, Leicester City chief scout Steve Walsh was at it again, till he left for Everton. And with one of his final signings, he might just have pulled another rabbit out of the hat. Blessed with incredible pace along with an eye for goal, Musa is pretty much of the Jamie Vardy type and should add depth to a team that was lacking pacey striking options. First thought of as a direct replacement for Vardy but now a fellow 4-4-2 formation type, ideal striker, it should be a treat to see them work together.
4) Sadio Mane to Liverpool
While the Senegalese international’s move to Anfield might not really stand out, he gives something to Liverpool that most other new signings don’t, the experience of playing in the Premier League itself .Also, the man who has scored the fastest hat trick in the league should give Liverpool the direct approach they sometimes lacked against compact teams last season. Add to the trickery and technical ability that the 24-year- old possesses and he should seamlessly into, what is fluid attacking midfield for Liverpool. It is thought that Jurgen Klopp had followed Mane career ever since he was with Red Bull Salzburg, and has already thought of a role that he will play for the club.
3) Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United
As far as big name signings go, the legendary Swede requires no introduction. And having had the best season of his career so far with PSG last season, he is clearly making a mockery of the age barrier. While many critics might say that Ibra no longer has the pace to play in the most competitive league in the world, Zlatan’s first goal for the club against Galatasaray should keep them happy for a while. Ibra is capable of producing that attacking spark that United lacked last season on a regular basis, and Manchester United fans must already be licking their lips at the thought of watching him play alongside the likes of Martial, Rooney, Rashford and Co.
2) Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United
In swapping an amazing Dortmund team for Manchester United, some might even say that Mkhitaryan has taken a step down in his career, but the lure of playing in the Premier league is something very few can resist. The quality that he brings to the team is undoubted, and as showcased last season, his ability to play the killer pass in the final third can only be matched by a certain Mesut Ozil. What United have got in signing the Armenia international is one of the best number 10’s on the continent and the only doubt anyone should have about him is, how long to till he is firing on all cylinders?
1) Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City
When Xabi Alonso likens you to Xavi Hernandez, you have got be something special, and when it comes to the German, he is no different. Plagued with injuries for the last two seasons, Gundogan proves his worth every time he steps onto the field, almost seamlessly dictating the play for his side. And playing as a deep lying play maker, he has amazing range of passing to go along with a ferocious shot. While many might not consider him to be an important player just yet, with Guardiola in charge, we should expect him to be a metronome for this City side almost every Game. Therefore, while the transfer market is still nascent, these are the 5 signings that should set the Premier League alight next season.
