Manchester City suffered a gruesome defeat at the hands of fellow EPL team – Tottenham Hotspur last night to see themselves get knocked out of the Champions League. It was a roller coaster 7-goal thriller that ended with massive drama all the way from the first kick to the last one. However, the one that created most drama was Raheem Sterling’s kick of the football which apparently put City through to the semis.
The joy did not last long after another VAR intervention which led to the goal being disallowed. What was a little heart-breaking was Pep Guardiola’s celebration being cut short. The Spaniard was probably on cloud 9 when his team completed an impossible comeback with Raheem Sterling’s 93rd-minute winner.
This video posted by Optus Sport on their Instagram page will give you a clear idea of how Pep celebrated a little too early, however, we cannot blame him as the whistle was blown for the goal until VAR interrupted and changed the decision.
The City manager wasn’t the only one to have celebrated a little too early, here are some instance when the players thought it was over too soon!
There’s one thing going at it a little early, and then there’s another thing going all out! Alan Pardew chose the latter and did a nice little jiggle when he thought midfielder Jason Puncheon had scored a goal. However, his celebrations were cut short pretty soon!
We must go back to the 2006 Winter Olympics when American snowboarder Jacobellis had a massive lead with the finish line in her sight. What happened next is slightly heart-breaking. The snowboarder went on to celebrate in one of the landings and ended up going off track, only to see the second placed person to go on and win the race!
Lonah Salpeter made a rookie mistake when she thought the race had ended, only to find out later that there was another lap to go. She finished the penultimate lap and raised her arms in the air assuming she had won the silver medal. When she realised, she was drained and then couldn’t keep up; she finished in the fourth spot.
