Liverpool turned on a ruthless performance at Anfield as they put five past Swansea City in the Premier League. Philippe Coutinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all contributed in the goal fest as Roberto Firmino helped himself to a brace. Pretty much a one-sided affair as for a change the Reds’ defence held fort for the entire 90 minutes. A look then at how the Liverpool players performed in their dominant display.
Simon Mignolet: 7/10
Nothing better than keeping a clean sheet on your 200th appearance for the club. Apart from that and a couple of routine saves, nothing to do for the entire match.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 8/10
Defensively sound and showed amazing attacking prowess. Charged into the box when he had to and delivered quality crosses. Thumped in Liverpool’s third of the match and his first Premier League goal. Much is expected in future from the Englishman.
Andy Robertson: 6/10
Not a very overwhelming performance, seeing that he was outrun on a few occasions. But mostly he was there at the right place at the right time to cut out danger.
Ragnar Klavan: 7/10
Was a very strong figure at the back. Handled the Swansea strike-force with ease, and there was hardly anything that went past him.
Joel Matip: 6/10
Back in the starting lineup after almost a month and was a bit rusty. However, dealt well with the Swansea strike force. Went forward a few times as well, seeing no threat from the opposition.
Emre Can: 6/10
Played a deep role in midfield. Could have easily gone forward and attacked the Swansea goal, but then again, was not required to.
Georgino Wijnaldum: 7/10
Showed much of the strength and pace that he is renowned for. Burst forward frequently and worked tirelessly throughout the match.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 7/10
Had a quiet game to begin with, but then popped up with a lovely finish towards the end to put the icing on the cake. Showed some great feet and desire, but needs to be more consistent on the pitch.
Philippe Coutinho: 9/10
A stunning curler from distance to open the scoring, and a perfect free-kick that aided Firmino’s first and Liverpool’s second. Was a livewire throughout the match and showed some great skills while taking on the defence.
Roberto Firmino: 8/10
Great positioning and awareness for both of his goals. But if truth be told, he should have had more. Missed a couple of great opportunities, but overall was a constant threat to the Swansea defence, managing to outfox their defenders often.
Mohamed Salah: 8/10
Another energetic performance from the Egyptian. Created a lot of spaces and openings with his pacey and trickery. Did not get a goal in this match, but he unselfishly teed up Firmino for his second. Also assisted Coutinho’s opener.
Adam Lallana: 5/10
Came on for Salah with about 20 minutes to go, and did well carrying forward attacks.
Dominic Solanke: 6/10
Came on for Firmino in the 68th minute and created a couple of chances. Looked lively for those few minutes.
James Milner: 5/10
Came on for Robertson with a quarter of an hour to go and slotted well into the left back role. Delivered a quality cross that Solanke was just about unable to convert.
