On this day in 1973, one of the best footballers to have ever graced a footballing field, Ryan Giggs was born in Cardiff, Wales. Born into a sporting family to Danny Wilson – a rugby union player for Cardiff RFC and Lynne Giggs, Ryan inherited his athleticism from his father. However, in his teenage, Ryan changed his surname to his mother’s after his parents separated.
A young Ryan moved to Salford in 1980 and soon joined a local football club Deans FC. With the club being coached by Manchester City scout, Ryan signed up for the Citizen’s School of Excellence. However, while playing for the Deans, a local newsagent and Old Trafford steward spoke to United’s then manager Alex Ferguson to send scouts for Ryan. Eventually, Ryan was offered a trial and while playing for Salford Boys, a match was scheduled against United Under-15s and Ryan went on to score a hat-trick.
In the following year, on the day of his 14th birthday, Ferguson offered him two years on associate schoolboy forms and the rest, as they say, is history. I won’t budge about how an unknown quantity became a legend at Old Trafford… No! Rather, I would talk about how a certain Ryan Giggs grabbed the headlines with his off the field antics.
Ryan Giggs and Lisa Jeynes: “Yes, I think he was a bit of a sex addict. We both had fun.”
As per the sources, Ryan and Lisa knew each other since their teenage and got together in the late 90’s just for the sex sessions in a hotel. “We had fun while it lasted but unfortunately the distance came between us,” Lisa was quoted by the Daily Mirror.
“He wasn’t down in Wales very often and I didn’t go up to Manchester, so we ended it after about a year.
“The bigger his name got, the more he became a bit cocky and confident. I didn’t like it as much.”
Despite being with Lisa Jeynes, Ryan – at the same time – was reportedly linked with the likes of TV personalities Dani Behr, Davinia Taylor and Patsy Kensit in the early ’90s.
Ryan Giggs and Dani Behr: “We dated for a year but it was difficult.”
“We dated for a year but it was difficult. Difficult because of manager Alex Ferguson.
“I lived in London and Ryan was in Manchester and he didn’t like his team travelling a long way so that was difficult. He controlled Ryan.
“I used to go to matches with 60,000 people singing ‘He’s here, he’s there, he’s sha**ing Dani Behr, Ryan Giggs,’ it seems like another world now. I was mortified, so embarrassed so when it ended I didn’t miss things like that and Sir Alex.
“I got so much attention then, I was never out of the papers. I guess we were the first showbiz-footballer couple so there was a huge interest in us.”
Ryan Giggs and Davinia Taylor, and Emma Gardner:
Ryan also appeared to be dating ex-Hollyoaks actress Davinia Taylor until the day their relationship fell out following an incident at a Manchester club. Giggs then reportedly dated his former United youth team colleague Dave Gardner’s sister Emma Gardner. Ryan eventually dumped Emma four years after she miscarried his baby in 1998, and started dating Gardner’s ex-fiancée, Stacey Cooke.
Ryan and Stacey Cooke and secret affair with Natasha Lever: “Ryan and I have already had an affair for eight years.”
In 2003, Stacey was pregnant with Giggs’ child and at the same time, Ryan started his secret affair with his future sister-in-law Natasha Lever whom he met at a Manchester nightclub. As quoted by the Mirror, Natasha had said that despite being a father, Ryan still pursued his sister-in-law for sex. In May 2003, Ryan’s youngster brother Rhodri started dating Natasha. Rhodri was completely unaware of any relationship of his partner with his elder brother.
Three years on, 2006, Ryan and Stacy welcomed their second child. In 2007, the couple tied the knot after the birth of their daughter. Meanwhile in 2010, Rhodri married Natasha after she reportedly secretly aborted Ryan’s baby. “It was awful. I was crying. All I kept thinking was, ‘I’m getting married to Rhodri next month and and I’m pregnant to Ryan, his brother,” she said in an interview with a Sunday paper.
“Ryan told me straight off, ‘You know there’s only one option – a termination. We can’t ruin everybody’s life.”
During the same tenure, it appeared that Ryan was in a six-month affair with Welsh Big Brother star Imogen Thomas.
Ryan and Natasha kept their secret eight whopping years and she eventually decided to come out in public. “It’s important to me that everybody knows about what really happened rather than believing rumours,” a source told the Mirror.
“Ryan and I have already had an affair for eight years. It’s a terrible secret I’ve had to keep for too long now. I don’t want it weighing on my conscience any more. I don’t want to have to carry on lying.”
She admitted: “I still have feelings for Ryan which I don’t want, but I’m starting to hate him now too. If he contacted me now I don’t think I would even reply.”
When she came face-to-face with Ryan and Stacey for the first time, the footballer blasted on her and Natasha was quoted as saying, “He [Ryan] shouted: ‘Are you f***ing stupid? Did you honestly think I had feelings for you… it was just about sex’.”
In 2013, Natasha filed for a divorce from her husband Rhodri with whom, she had two sons together Louis and Liam.
Eventually, in 2016, Ryan and Stacey split after he was reportedly caught getting flirty with waitresses in his Manchester restaurant. “There’s no way back. Ryan and I are finished,” Stacey was quoted by the Mirror.
“Word got back to Stacey that Ryan had been flirting with some of the waitresses at George’s, and she had had enough.”
Eventually, in August 2017, the pair ended their relationship in just 43 seconds after a bitter battle over their £40million fortune.
