The match between Liverpool and Arsenal in April 2009, will always be fondly remembered as one of the greatest games in the Premier League history. It was a classic in each and every possible manner, serving the primary purpose of the beautiful game: entertainment.
The match at Anfield also saw one of the greatest individual performances in the Premier League history, with Russian winger Andrey Arshavin scoring all the four goals for Arsenal, all four of them being brilliant finishes. The Russian was a deadly player in his prime, capable of winning a match on his own.
The performance against Liverpool was the perfect example of his abilities. All the finishes for the goals were ice-cool in nature and showcased his technical prowess. To this day, the Premier League has witnessed very few performances as good as this. He had all the attributes to become one of the best players in the world, but unfortunately, Arshavin could never fulfil his true potential at the Emirates stadium.
There have been many spectacular performances over the years in the Barclays Premier League, but few have matched the sheer genius of this particular performance by Arshavin, considering the magnitude of the game, played between two true giants of English and world football and the quality of players involved in the tie. In the future, it would still be very difficult for any player in the Premier League, to replicate a performance, anywhere near this level.
